Church Cemetery. She married ADAM POOLE Abt. 1838 probably in Gwinnett
Co. Ga.
ADAM POOLE and Caroline were members
of the Mt. Moriah Bapt Church. Adam was Postmaster at Cain's P.O.
from 1842-1855, and J.P. Cain's district 1845-1849. He may be
found
in the 1850-1880 Gwinnett censuses.

He married LYDIA CAROLINE MORGAN November 25, 1847 in Gwinnett Co. Ga. Manning attended Mt. Moriah Bapt. Church and was a farmer. He served in the Civil War, Troop H, 10th Cav. Regt., Gwinnett Co. Ga.

He married MARY ELIZABETH BAILEY Bef. 1860 in Gwinnett or Hall Co., Ga., daughter of WILLIAM BAILEY and FRANCES _______.

In his service in the Civil War he was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Va. He recovered from that to be captured at the Battle of Strasburg and was held a prisoner of war. On his pension application , April 1895, he made a sworn statement that he was and always had been a resident of Gwinnett Co. His home was in Gwinnett Co. right near the borderline of Hall Co. Ga. The pension papers may be found at the Georgia Archives.
JOHN FRANCIS MARION CAIN was a member of the Old Friendship Baptist Church, Friendship Road, Gwinnett Co. Ga. and a farmer. He lived on this same road. He served in Co. F., 24th Regt., Gwinnett Co., in the Civil War.The old house has been torn down.

This information received from Geraldine Willingham McCarty, Canton, Tx., who used census, marriage, cemetery , Civil War records, and from James Cain's intestate records. James J. Cain died 1871 intestate in Gwinnett Co. Ga. His son, James Toliver, being dead, Rebecca Jane Cain, James T's daughter, inherited his part. Adam Poole was appointed Admr of Rebecca J. Cain, 25 October 1871, Gwinnett Co. Ga.

Cicero Cain served in Co F, 24th Inf Regt., during the Civil War, along with his brothers, John F. M. Cain and Clinton M. Cain. Their brother, James Toliver Cain, served in Co I, 55th Inf, Gwinnett Co. Ga. Uncle William Anderson Cain was a Captain , Troop H, 10th Ga. Cavary. All survived the war except James Toliver Cain who was killed in Tennessee while on active duty.
Cicero was wounded at the Battle of
South Crampton's Gap in Maryland. His left index finger was shot
at the middle joint. Cicero Cain was captured at Front Royal, Va.
according to Gwinnett Co. History, Volume I, pg. 211, but according to
his Civil War pension application it was Deep Bottom, Va. on August 16,
1864. He then was imprisoned in Elmira, NY. His company,
also
known as Cobb's Brigade, surrendered with General Robert E. Lee at
Appomattox
Courthouse. He applied for pension October 29, 1896, and received
$5.00 anually.
