112. MARY JANE8 CASH (RUFUS ASBURY7 CASH (MORRIS WILLIAM6, STEPHEN P.5, WILLIAM4, STEPHEN3, ROBERT HOWARD2, WILLIAM1) was born April 13, 1872 in Flowery Branch, Hall, Ga., and died July 07, 1948 in Gwinnett, Ga.  She married LUKE ERVIN CAIN September 21, 1890 in Gwinnett Co. Ga.  They are buried at Luxomni Baptist Churchyard, Lilburn, Ga.  She was a farmer's wife and homemaker.  She grew up in Flowery Branch, Hall Co. Ga. and had a grade school education.  She and Luke lived in Gwinnett Co., Martin's District, at the corner of Pleasant Hill Road and Cruce Rd.Luke and Mary Jane [Cash] Cain first lived near the Kelly place near Hazelrigs place near Lilburn in Gwinnett Co.  Around 1901, they moved to the Pleasant Hill Road Homestead.  Luke was a farmer.  I remember a dirt road used to be just in front of the house, on which a large barn stood which housed his mules, horses, and cows.  There were many acres of cotton fields down behind the house.

His seven sons all learned to work on the farm, and my father told me he left school after the sixth grade in order to work full time on the farm.

One time when I was around twelve, one of the horses delivered a colt and I was allowed to watch.  I have never forgotten that.

Also, they used to have hog killings in the winter, but I didn't watch them kill it.  I just remember they strung the hog up on stakes of some kind, steamed, skinned and cleaned it and cut the meat up; they had large black pots of water boiling on wood fires in the yard.  All the neighbors came and helped, and the Cains in turn would help their neighbors when the time came.  This is when they would cook the hog's intestine into delicacies called "chitterlin's", and they used those to make crackling cornbread too.

All the birthdates and marriage dates of Luke and Mary Jane came from their Bible.  I don't know who has this Bible now.  They were the grandparents of the compiler.  See the following URL for details on the Cain family, ancestors of Luke Cain: http://oursouthernancestors.com/cain-001.html
