6.      WILLIAM S. 3 SORRELLS [William2, Richard ), the son of Dorcas Sanders and William Alexander Sorrells, has now been positively identified in the primary records. In the old family letters, Mary Susan Sorrells called him William A, while Mabel Yoakum Holliday Moody called him William, and Gertrude Everett Scott called him William A . This confused the issue for awhile, because as it turned out, his name was William S. Sorrells, and I still don't know what the 'S' stands for. It could be Sanders or Snead or something else. He was a first cousin to William Snead Sorrells, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Jones Sorrells.

William S. Sorrells of Madison County, Adair's District, drew and won Lot#9, District 2, Lee County, Ga [1827 Land Lottery List, Ga. SurveyorGeneral Dept, Ga. Archives]. His father, William Alexander Sorrells also lived in Adair's District then.

The 1830 Walton County census taken in June 1830, p. 62, shows William S. Sorrells, age 20-30, living alone, 2 slaves. William Alexander Sorrells was also on the 1830 Walton County census.

William S. Sorrells was born in Georgia in 1805 and died before 1870 census, Acworth, Cobb Co. Ga. He married ELIZABETH DANIEL, the daughterof Allen Daniel, Jr. and his wife, Mary Jones, who was another daughter of Russell Jones and Anne Beasley Jones. Elizabeth was born abt 1812 and died after 1870, Cobb Co. Ga. They were married in Madison County, Georgia on 9 October 1830. Elizabeth was buried in the old Daniel Cemetery in MadisonCo.

On 30 March 1835, Walton Co: William S. Sorrells, Richard T. Sorrells,Whitmill Adair, and William Meroney made promissory note security for WilliamSorrells [Deed Bk K;608A, 609, 610, 611].

A partial abstract I made from the microfilm records of the yearly returns on the estate of Allen Daniel for the year 1840, Madison Co. :Voucher #3- Received Of Elisha Ware, Administrator of Allen Daniel, Sr.,deceased, 945 on account of my part of the estate of said deceased as one of the legatees, in right of my wife, Elizabeth Sorrells, formerly Elizabeth Daniel, this 1 January 1840. Signed William S. Sorrells.

Also receiving from this estate in right of their wives: Elisha Ware,$1295 (Cintha Daniel); James R. Griffeth, $845 (Mary Daniel); Ephraim Strickland,$795 (Nancy Daniel) ; Oliver C. Powell, $35 (Frances Daniel). Those receivingfor themselves were: Mary Daniel, $1645, widow of the deceased; WilliamDaniel, $214; James Daniel, $145.05; Allen C. Daniel, $295.

The above records show this was the family of Elizabeth Daniel Sorrells.  She was a daughter of Allen Daniel Jr. and Mary Jones, and she was a granddaughter of Russell Jones (2, Charles Sorrells]. Mary Jones Daniel and Allen Daniel, are called daughter and son-in-law in the will of Russell Jones, whichwas probated in 1828, Franklin Co. Ga.

The 1840 Cass County, Ga. census lists William S. Sorrells with 4 males and 2 females. No William S. Sorrells was found in 1840 Walton County census.

8  January 1846, Walton Co. Voucher #1, William Sorrells' estate to William S. Sorrells, $163.80.  When William Alexander Sorrells died, a sale of land from the estate was held.  In Walton County Deed Bk O:431,4 Nov. 1846, and in Deed Bk O:558, 6 Jan, 1847, are found the sale of land to William S. Sorrells, Jr.  I don't know why he was called Jr., because he was at least 15 years older than his cousin, William Snead Sorrells.

The 1850 Cass County, Ga. census, p. 148, 12th Division shows: WilliamSorrells, born 1805, Ga. with his wife Elizabeth and their children. His age fits the 1820 Madison Co. Ga. census of William Alexander Sorrells. The names of the children given in this record, Allen, Russel J., Centhia(sic),James S., all fit into the Daniel-Jones-Sorrells families.

In September 1852, W.S. Sorrells served as a Grand Juror for the Inferior Court, Cass Co. No William Sorrells found in the 1860 Cass Co.census. The name changed to Bartow in 1861. His wife Elizabeth with some of the children and grandchildren are found in the 1870 Acworth, Cobb Co.Ga. census.
