7.       JAMES NATHANIEL  3 SORRELLS (William  2, Richard), born 17 June 1801, Georgia; died 9 July 1882, Walton County.  He married LUCY ANN HAYNES (b. 21 Aug. 1821, Ga; d. 19 Oct. 1896), on 20 July 1837, Walton County [D:l].  Both are buried with marked tombstones in the Tanner cemetery, Walton County, Georgia.

James N. Sorrells was a proven son of Dorcas Sanders and William Alexander Sorrells [Walton Co. Minutes 1840: 22-24].  The parentage of Lucy Ann is said to be Greenberry Haynes and Edy Austin by Donald Clarke, a Haynes-Austin researcher.  Greenberry Haynes is in the 1820 Gwinnett County and in the 1830-50 Walton County censuses. The original marriage license of Lucy Ann and James N. Sorrells is among the loose papers of the Sorrells family at the Georgia Archives. This family has been compiled from Walton County cemetery, marriage, and census records with the assistance of Jennifer Lee (O'Shannon) LeBlanc Sorrells , Reba Lee, Dorothy Cox, and Frances Young.

8.        RICHARD  TULLY 3  SORRELLS ( William  2, Richard ), according to tombstone born 26 August 1808, Georgia. and died 26 February 1868, and he is buried near Danielsville, Georgia in the Brown Cemetery, Madison County.   Richard Tully Sorrells married EVELINA (AVELONAH) L. BROWN (b. 14 Jan. 1810; d. 20 Dec. 1890), daughter of Ann Griffeth and Rev. Benjamin Brown, 7 February 1828, Madison County, ceremony performed by W.H. Adair, J.P.   Many dates below come from the Benjamin Brown family bible found on the internet http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/madison/bibles/benbrown.txt

Richard Tully Sorrells appears on the 1830-1860 Madison County censuses. His estate records were not searched. He stayed in Madison County when his father, William Alexander, and his uncle, Charles Sorrells, moved to Walton County by 1830. In the records, he can be easily confused with his cousin, Richard W. Sorrells (15), since Richard W. also lived in Madison County. Watch for middle initial.

Information for the Richard Tully Sorrells family came from 1830-1860 Madison County censuses, Madison and Walton Counties marriages, cemetery records, a family tree chart drawn by W.T. Sorrells, a descendant, in Ga. Archives, Central Research Room, and Our Kin, Edna Anderson Manning and William Manning, pages 1068-88. Our Kin is out of print. A copy is in the Athens Regional Library, Athens, Georgia.

9.        ELEANOR 3 SORRELLS (William 2, Richard), born 19 January 1809, Georgia; died 4 May 1888, Walton County. She married WILLIAM GORDON BULLOCK (b. 27 Sept. 1802, GA; d. Ca. 1866, Walton Co. GA.), son of Frances Roy Gordon and Hawkins Bullock, on 6 November 1823, Madison County, GA, ceremony performed by Isham Goss, M.G.  They are buried in unmarked graves on their former plantation near Alcovy Mt. In Walton County.

A brother of William Gordon Bullock, Alexander Gordon Bullock, married Mildred Sorrells (4), sister of Eleanor Sorrells. The William Gordon Bullock family lived in Madison County until they came to Walton County about 1840. William was one of the administrators of the estate of William Alexander Sorrells' estate in 1841, and is listed in the 1850 and 1860 Walton County censuses.

Bullock's will is found in Return P:687; Inventory and Appraisement in Return P:757-758; appointment of executrix, Eleanor Bullock, March 1866 in Returns, Bk Q: 173.The Bullock family has been compiled using those records, an old letter written in 1921 by Gertrude Everett Scott in which she stated she took the names of the children and their dates from the family Bible. 10.       ALEXANDER H. 3 SORRELLS (William 2, Richard ), born ca. 1812, Georgia; died 19 February 1892, Walton County. He married HARRIET LESTER (b. ca 1817, Ga; d. 5 Feb. 1895, Walton Co.), on 4 February 1836, Madison County, ceremony performed by W.H. Adair, J.P. Their burial place is unknown.

It is thought that Alexander was the man referred to as Sanders Sorrells who married Lester in the old family letters, and listed as the son of William Alexander and Dorcas Sanders Sorrells.   It is thought he was called "Sandy" or "Sanders".

Georgia Archives indexes in the central research room show Alexander H. Sorrells as Captain in Madison County, 1 October 1834 through 2 May 1836 [M.R. 1829-41, p. 72]. Alexander H. Sorrells is listed on the 1840 Madison County census, 1852 Walton County tax list, 1860 and 1880 Walton county censuses. He does not appear on the compiler's copy of the 1850 Walton census, but other records show he was there in 1850.

Alexander H. Sorrells received a share of the estate of William Sorrells, deceased 1841, Walton County. Records found in the loose papers of Alexander Sorrells at Georgia Archives connect Alexander with a proven son of William, James Nathaniel Sorrells, and other believed sons of William as follows: 31 Jan. 1849. Bennet(sic) W. Sorrells, Alex H. Sorrells, and John H. Sorrells, securities on bond.   Condition was that Alexander H. Sorrells be duly elected as constable, 503rd Georgia Militia District.12 Jan. 1850. Alexander H., James N., and John H. Sorrells, securities for same as above. Alexander was elected constable "5th day of this inst."

In 1853, Alexander H. Sorrells was living on Lot #34, 2nd District, Walton County, part of which lot James N. Sorrells was selling [Walton Co. Deed Bk Q:410]. The same lot is shown on the sale of property in the estate of William as 130 acres, sold to Alex H. Sorrells for $201, 4 January 1842, Walton County, on credit for 12 months. No deed was on microfilm in Georgia Archives for the sale to Alex H. Sorrells, nor was there any record of how James N. Sorrells acquired it. Since not all loose papers could be checked, maybe the records are there.

Alexander and his wife were members of the church and their dates of death are shown on the Sorrells Spring Primitive Baptist Church rosters in Walton County.  Alexander H. Sorrells was the church clerk for a long period. Source for this family were the censuses, tax list as stated above, Walton and Madison County marriages, the Sorrells Spring church records, and data from Velna Bond Sorrells of Athens, Georgia whose husband, CLEVELAND ALDEN SORRELLS, descends from Humphrey H. Sorrells.

SORRELLS, b. 23 Nov. 1838; d. 27 Jan. 1919.  She was perhaps Mrs. Caroline Sorrells who m. Richard T. Sorrells, 6 Sept. 1865, Walton Co. Perhaps Mary Caroline Davis m. (1) William J.C. Sorrells, became his widow, and then married  his brother second.  Richard T. Sorrells and Mary C. Sorrells were members of Sorrells Spring Bapt. Church.  For Richard's will, see Walton Co. 12.       JOHN H. 3 SORRELLS (William 2 Richard ) born ca. 1816, Georgia; married HARRIET (b. ca. 1822, Ga.), but marriage record was not found.   Her maiden name is said to have been COLEMAN. The family was in the 1850 Walton County census and the 1860 Chambers County, Alabama census. John appears to have left Georgia after 1858 and before 1860 for Chambers Co. AL.

John H. Sorrells received from the estate of William Alexander Sorrells, deceased 1841, Walton County.   John was one of the securities for the administrators bond on William's estate in the amount of $16,000. The other security, Dudley Ransom, has not been identified.

The loose papers, Georgia Archives, show John closely associated with James N. Sorrells, proven son of William, and with Alexander H. and Bennett W. Sorrells (see #10, preceding, for abstract of these records).   On 4 December 1848, John H. Sorrells purchased Lot #35, 2nd District, Walton County, from the estate of William Sorrells, and then sold half of the land to Wiley J. Sorrells on the same date [Deed Bk P:179, 218-19].   On 27 January 1851, John sold the other half of Lot #35, 2nd District, Walton County, to Abijah R. Towler [Deed BK P:583A].

John H. Sorrells was not mentioned in the old letters as a son of William Alexander and Dorcas Sorrells. This only means the persons writing those letters did not know of him. Children of Harriet and John H. Sorrells are taken from the 1850 Walton County, Georgia census and the 1860 Chambers County, Alabama census. No further work was done on John, and it is not known where or when he died.  I would love to hear from descendants.
